What we do
You would be part of the Developer Experience team, which owns the tooling and systems that engineers across The Trade Desk use to do their jobs. Having developers as our customers can be a highly rewarding experience and comes with unique challenges. Often it falls to us to take a long-term view of how our codebases evolve even as business pressures push the other way. At a practical level we are responsible for building and maintaining source control and build systems, but we also take on projects that are beyond the scope of other teams, such as orchestrating shifts in the core technology stack.
What you’ll do:
In the Developer Experience team, you would have a wider purview than that of a typical engineer. In addition to building and maintaining our tools and services, you would have opportunities to engage with other teams on their architecture and roadmaps and bring your understanding of their needs to inform our own direction. Our work is broad and varied and brings us into contact with all kinds of technologies. We move quickly and work with other teams to help bring wide-scoped projects to conclusion.
Diversity of thought is critical to our success as a team, so we welcome people from a variety of experiences and backgrounds and encourage voicing opinions that differ from the prevailing.
Day-to-day, you will work on the following things:
- Building and maintaining our source control and build infrastructure and tooling
- Helping internal customer engineers with their use of our services
- Working on strategic projects to improve codebases and architecture across the organisation
- Take part in discussions about the direction of development across the organisation
Who you are:
Team fit is particularly important to us for this role, and there are two key aspects that we’re looking for:
- Motivation to improve the lives of internal customer software engineers and guide development in the ‘right’ direction
- The products we build are not glamorous, but they have high impact. If you find that appealing, then you will probably be a good fit.
- Ability to learn fast, move fast, and take calculated risks
- The scope of our work takes us to all corners of the codebase, and to technologies that you won’t have encountered before. We’re looking for engineers who can pick up new concepts quickly.
- Our projects involve big changes, but the risk of making these rapidly is often reduced by the separation between us and platform features. If you can reason about risk and work quickly when it’s safe to do so, then you should consider applying.
We are looking for competent experienced engineers; but given the features above and the varied nature of the work, we will not require any specific technical skill or experience.
The Trade Desk does not accept unsolicited resumes from search firm recruiters. Fees will not be paid in the event a candidate submitted by a recruiter without an agreement in place is hired; such resumes will be deemed the sole property of The Trade Desk.
