The Trade Desk is seeking a China country specialist at the Senior Accountant level based in our Shanghai office. Reporting to the Assistant Controller, a successful candidate will have a good understanding of financial accounting and China compliance and tax requirements, be hands-on in resolving accounting operation issues and able to provide solutions drawing on past experiences. The Senior Accountant will work as an individual contributor and collaborate with other stakeholders (e.g., stakeholders within the organization, external third-party consultants, external auditors, etc.)
What you’ll do
- Perform month end close tasks including but not limited to, preparation of journal entries for cash activities, accruals, reserves, intercompany transactions and other business transactions, account reconciliations and reporting under US GAAP and China GAAP for China legal entities.
- Collect, compile, verify and analyze information required for the preparation of statutory and compliance reports, including preparation or review of financial statements, analytical reports and regulatory or tax filings (i.e. VAT and CIT declarations).
- Manage third party external service providers that provide statutory compliance, tax consultancy, treasury, and statutory audit.
- Act as the first point of contact for local tax authorities in China and respond to their requests in timely manner.
- Collaborate with accounting operations functions, including credit and collections, accounts payable, payroll and stock admin teams, to provide country-level support.
- Act as a finance business partner for business, engineering and support teams in China, assisting internal stakeholders while escalating concerns to appropriate levels of the controllership organization.
- Develop initiatives or takes on duties in process improvement and reporting enhancement projects with the goal of promoting efficiency, effective customer service and/or improved employee relations.
- Builds strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, with the ability to steer through organizational mazes to get things done.
- Understand organizational processes and make recommendations when adopting global standards to local practices.
- Operate as a country financial liaison providing early alerts on accounting and finance concerns to appropriate levels of the organization.
- Support new initiatives and special projects, as required.
Who you are
- 7+ years of progressive experience in accounting, tax and compliance at a US technology company.
- Knowledge in China GAAP, application of local tax and compliance regulations is a must. Previous Big 4 audit experience is a plus.
- Bachelor's degree in finance/accounting, CICPA preferred.
- Skilled Oracle or ERP system user, with, or interested in, working with more technical/data driven tools.
- Detail-oriented self-starter with a strong sense of ownership, ability to work independently and see tasks/projects through to completion, meet deadlines and escalate matters, with little to no supervision.
- Able to make effective and independent judgment, take appropriate courses of action, develop creative solutions to difficult problems and manage diverse and conflicting priorities.
- Highly collaborative and enjoy partnering with others to seek out opportunities to improve process and efficiencies across the organization.
- Analytically driven with the ability to present information persuasively and effectively through writing, presentations and spreadsheets.
- Excellent command of English, both oral and written, and comfortable working in an English-speaking environment.
