Director, Associate General Counsel – Product & Privacy   
The Trade Desk is a dynamic, fast-growing technology company and we require excellent leadership at all levels.  We are looking for an experienced product counsel who has excellent judgement, loves to analyze complex issues and find creative solutions.  We are looking for someone able to collaborate cross-functionally while also balancing competing demands, working independently, maintaining a positive attitude and, hopefully, contributing some humor to our legal slack channel. The role of Director, Associate General Counsel, Product & Privacy, is a fantastic opportunity for a candidate who is driven to take a collaborative approach to building privacy into products that are redefining the digital advertising ecosystem. The candidate who fills this role will be part of a global team that is building the critical, privacy-focused technologies that are designed to build a trusted advertising ecosystem for the open internet and Connected TV.

The role will focus on legal counselling to product and business teams to mitigate legal risk in all phases of product development.

What you'll do:

  • Exercise strong judgment and provide legal leadership on strategic initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the company's product and business teams from the initial stages of product development and beyond to identify potential legal risks and provide risk-mitigation strategies.
  • Work closely with internal business partners to understand their perspectives, processes, applications, projects, and technologies to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and best practices while guiding them to the successful resolution of projects.
  • Distill and communicate complex legal concepts in layman’s terms.
  • Educate employees, partners, and clients about current and emerging privacy issues facing the company and the industry.
  • Maintain an up to date understanding of the intersection of global privacy laws and advertising technology, and how the use of cookies, tags, pixels, AI/ML models, and other mechanisms customize and personalize digital advertising.
  • Collaborate with legal and business team members to improve processes.

Who you are:

  • Education: J.D. degree from ABA accredited law school.
  • Bar: Must be a member in good standing of an applicable state.
  • 12+ years of legal experience
  • Understanding of legal issues impacting the digital advertising industry including self-regulatory guidelines, privacy and data governance issues and legislation, consumer protection, and global privacy laws & regulations.
  • Technology savvy.
  • Experience advising on advertising technology matters.
  • Detailed understanding of US state privacy laws preferred.
  • Excellent critical thinking and analytical writing skills.
  • Decisive, forward thinking, energetic and accountable, with a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work well under pressure with diligence, organization, and high autonomy.
  • Ability to boil complex issues down to the bottom line and provide practical, business-friendly advice that can be operationalized.
  • Builds effective relationships inside and outside the company established on trust, respect, and confidence.
  • Moves fluidly between macro strategic thinking to tactical excellence
  • Makes good executional and planning decisions.
  • Works directly with business team leadership to provide and obtain information and build consensus regarding product strategy and project deadlines
  • Proactively identifies and leads execution of projects and initiatives that impact the team, department, and company, taking into consideration cross-department collaboration

CO, CA, IL, NY, WA, and Washington DC residents only: In accordance with CO, CA, IL, NY, WA, and Washington DC law, the range provided is The Trade Desk's reasonable estimate of the base compensation for this role. The actual amount may differ based on non-discriminatory factors such as experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and location. All employees may be eligible to become The Trade Desk shareholders through eligibility for stock-based compensation grants, which are awarded to employees based on company and individual performance. The Trade Desk also offers other compensation depending on the role such as sales-based incentives and commissions. Plus, expected benefits for this role include comprehensive healthcare (medical, dental, and vision) with premiums paid in full for employees and dependents, retirement benefits such as a 401k plan and company match, short and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, well-being benefits, reimbursement for certain tuition expenses, parental leave, sick time of 1 hour per 30 hours worked, vacation time for full-time employees up to 120 hours thru the first year and 160 hours thereafter, and around 13 paid holidays per year. At the Trade Desk, Base Salary is one part of our competitive total compensation and benefits package and is determined using a salary range. The base salary range for this role is $201,100—$368,700 USD
